Enigma Top 20 for 2006

From Enigma Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

In the year 2006, Enigmaversary II took place. Among the special events that occured was the compiling of an Enigma top 20 list in the categories of Movies, Books, Comics, Games, and Television. The list has been since been broken up and reorganized on this wiki for ease of reference and further discussion.

Contents

[edit] Method

A poll was conducted among various inhabitants of the Enigma list several months prior to the Enigmaversary festivities. These poll results were sorted, collated, and then given to people during Enigmaversary for voting to yield the top twenty results in each category. Results were announced to the list except for the top 3 of each, which were held until until Scott's Easter party.

[edit] Retabulation

A single voting sheet was found later and the results retabulated. The new entries (where changes were made) have asterisks by them. The old results are at the end for reference.

[edit] Credits

Aaron Vanek is responsible for stirring up the pot and getting people to submit and vote on the top 20 list. If you don't like the results, then GOOD - talk about it using the discussion tab at the top.

Quote from Aaron:

"Overall: if there were two items that were ranked the same on a ballot (two #4ís, for example), I discounted both votes and moved everything else up. If you skipped a number (8, 10, 11, etc.) I moved everything up to fill the gap. I should have discounted the entire ballot, but instead I stared at the hanging chad and interpreted what the voter wanted.

If there was a tie, both entries would hold that numbered slot, but the next entry would be two rankings removed (i.e., a two-way tie for 12th, the next one would be 14th).

I only listed the author of the novels, because I am lazy.

This is supposed to provoke discussion. So, DISCUSS!

Thank you to everyone who participated! I had to tabulate 40 ballots, and it was a great pain in the ass! Still, I think these results reveal a lot about who we are as a club. Sure, a top 20 list is fruitless wanking, however, there are some truths buried in these entries and rankings; it would do you well to pay heed to what was done here."
